Artwork by local talented painter gets pride of place on a much loved landmark.

A vibrant painting by former Advertiser chief photographer Ian Townsley has been unveiled outside the recently refurbished Rotherham Civic Theatre.

Talented Ian - who had a fine art background - spent about 23 years with the paper before passing away in 2012.

The original painting, called 'Molly's Suite' now hangs above his old desk in the photographic department at the Advertiser offices in Manvers.

Advertiser Editor Andrew Mosely said: " Ian was very well known accross Rotherham from his many years serving the community through the Advertiser. He continues to be greatly missed by his colleagues here and we were delighted when this painting was approved for Gallery Town. We hope seeing his work outside the Civic will help brighten people's lives, just as his photographic work did over such a long time. "
