New Art on Domine Lane
Creative contributions from artists and young people have given Domine Lane a much needed face-lift.
Artists, children and young people from accross the Borough have come together to create artwork to liven up frontages of empty premises on Domine Lane.
Our new Mayor, Councillor John Foden joined the artists of all ages in a launch on 3rd July in Domine Lane, accompanied by Councillor John Doyle.
Young People From Swinton Lock Activity Centre created a new 'Shop Window' complete with interested audience, based on an old photograph of a shop window from Local Archives.
Continuing the theme, local artist Chris Slater created two paintings of traditional hardware and butcher's shops specially for the Domine Lane project - with humerous references to the 'Four Candles' comedy sketch - look out for the 'O's! This project was supported by Shop Local. for more information about Shop Local Visit the Rotherham Town Centre Website
The Inspire bookshop incorporates a huge painting of Roald Dahl's BFG, by Elliot Harris, aged 6. The giant is further compliment by excerpts from Inspire Rotherham's compendium of works by Rotherham Schoolchildren. These works include a letter to the BFG and his response.
In addition, Rotherhams's current Children's Laureate, Eve Teasdale gets her own row of books and in the shop window is another children's poem.
The final shop front is a taster for Gallery Town, with works currently on show in Rotherham Town Centre as part of the 2013 Gallery Town exhibition.
