The Art and Where to Find It

Summer's Day

Artist: Berthe Morisot

Location: Bon Marche/Heron Foods, Howard Street. The original is on display at The National Gallery, London.

This oil on canvas is a quick capture of two fashionable young women on a boating lake. The National Gallery (where you can see the original) states that "this is probably the painting that Morisot exhibited under the title "The Lake in the Bois de Boulogne" in the fifth Impressionist exhibition, held in 1880." Intentionally sketchy, it is done in the Impressionist style of capturing modern life outdoors, painted in bright, pure colours. Berthe Morisot , Summer's Day Copyright The National Gallery, London.
